The Influencer Certificate: a new standard in influencer marketing?

Written by Karen Moreaux

Influencer marketing is growing rapidly, but not all collaborations go smoothly. Mistakes happen faster than a scroll on your For You page, and the rules are sometimes more complex than an algorithm. Since October 2025, there has been a solution: the Influencer Certificate. This official seal of approval shows that the industry is seriously committed to professionalism and transparency.

Why such a certificate?

The idea is simple: influencers and content creators show that they know the rules, advertise transparently and protect their followers. In other words, it is proof that they are professional and trustworthy.

The certificate is part of AdEthics, a European training programme by the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA). In Belgium, organizations such as the Influencer Marketing Alliance, Raad voor Reclame, FeWeb, BAM, United Media Agencies, UBA and ACC have supported it.

What does it involve?

The e-learning covers everything from applicable legislation to transparent advertising, specific advertising rules and the social responsibility influencers have on social media. The result? Fewer fines, fewer warnings, and an industry that looks significantly more trustworthy. A win-win situation, not only for influencers themselves, but also for brands and consumers.

Inspiration from abroad

In Belgium, a little over 100 influencers have obtained the certificate so far, but the initiative still needs to gain real traction here. In the Netherlands, a similar initiative is already in place, with more than 1,000 creators having earned the certificate. Major brands such as L’Oréal, Unilever, Heineken and Bol.com work exclusively with certified influencers. In the United Arab Emirates, it is even mandatory: there, a dual license is required to post paid promotions. Talk about professionalisation!

What does this mean for the industry?

The certificate strengthens the trust of brands and consumers in influencer marketing. It helps professionalize the industry, makes collaborations clearer and more transparent, and improves the reputation of the entire sector.

In short, a small investment with a big impact on the credibility and sustainability of influencer marketing.
